One of my favorite parks in Bangkok has to be Suan Rod Fai (Railway Park), because the park offers so much more than others.
The proper name of the park is Vachirabenjatas Park, but no local ever calls it by its proper name. The park was originally a golf course belonging to the State Railway of Thailand, and later it was turned into a public park for everyone to enjoy. The park still has a golf driving range for those who would like to whack a ball around.
Suan Rod Fai park is connected to two other parks, Queen Sirikit Park and Chatuchak Park, the 3 parks combined is already a full day activity. The park is also popular with birdwatchers & botanists, and there is even a butterfly and insectarium for those who are interested to visit.
What is there to do in the park apart from strolling and jogging? Bring or rent a bicycle, there is also a small group who use skateboards and roller skates. There is a 3-kilometer dedicated cycle track around the park, you can see a glimpse of that in my video below.
Here’s a 360 version using the Insta360 camera;
There is a total of 4 restaurants at the park, 1 at the golf driving range, 1 directly connected to the park, and 2 others are about 50 meters from the entrance. There is also a water & snack booth where you can buy refreshments.
I should also mention that there are tennis courts, children’s playground, swimming pool and a fitness, the latter two are for members only though.
